As part of the new construction of the Reims University Hospital (CHU), the hospital has taken pioneering steps to improve the needs of its patients and the working environment of its employees through innovative technologies. A central element of this modernization is the new “Christian CABROL” building with a capacity of 476 beds and an investment volume of 240 million euros in the first phase of the project. This building houses around 23 departments ranging from surgery to urology. The CHU Reims has chosen DS Automotion, an SSI Schaefer Group company, to automate the building's logistics processes with mobile robots and thus make them significantly more efficient.

The initial situation in Arburg's transport logistics was clear: the extended assembly areas created by a new hall made it necessary to expand the internal conveyor systems. The new, third assembly hall, which was built in 2019/2020 as an extension of the two existing halls, had to be connected logistically. The existing assembly halls are supplied from the central high-rack warehouse using an electric monorail system. The new transport system was designed to be driverless from the outset and integrates the new hall into the existing logistics chain, ensuring a continuous, smooth supply to all three halls.

As a leading manufacturer of malts and baking ingredients, STAMAG Stadlauer Malzfabrik GesmbH is an im-portant partner for breweries and bakeries. Its glass baking ingredient factory in Vienna enables the flexible and hygienic composition of baking mixes according to around 400 recipes. Two driverless transport systems from DS Automotion form the backbone of the production facility, which will open in 2023. A freely navigating sys-tem with model-predictive route calculation in production ensures maximum flexibility and process reliability, while another ensures the rapid availability of cleaned batch containers for assembling the next batch.

Heat pumps help us reach our climate targets. Instead of fossil fuels, the environment-friendly heating and cooling systems utilize energy from the ambient air, soil or phreatic water. In Holzminden, Germany, Stiebel Eltron manufactures various types of heat pumps on a common, highly flexible production line. There, a driver-less transport system made by DS Automotion takes care of the fully automated transport of the unfin-ished heat pumps between manual work stations that are linked using conventional conveyor systems.

In just six months, SSI Schaefer was able to automate the existing mobile racking system at Ostendorf in Emstek using automated guided vehicles (AGV) and its WAMAS® intralogistics software. Right after the go-live in the middle of 2021, the positive impact of this partially automated logistics solution was clear and quantifiable: it ensures transparent, error-free processes and makes the material flow resource-independent – and thus more efficient – in three-shift operations. Achieving these objectives was an important step for this plastics specialist in order to meet its customers’ increasingly specific demands and strengthen its position on a highly competitive market.

The switch from fossil to electric power presents the automotive industry with major challenges. Demand for batteries as a key component of electromobility is rising rapidly. In its largest European facility alone, a German premium manufacturer is expanding its production capacity for this in several steps to 500,000 units per year and is relying on application-optimized automated guided vehicles from DS AUTOMOTION.

ENGEL AUSTRIA produces plastic injection molding machines at its headquarters in Schwertberg with great vertical integration. On the one hand, the transport of raw parts with manned forklifts reached its limits in view of cramped aisles, and on the other hand, ENGEL wanted to use its employees for more complex work. The partial changeover of the pre-material transport to the intelligent transport robot AMADEUS from DS AUTOMOTION brought a noticeable relief to the tense traffic situation. The automated guided vehicle system now carries out an additional 100 transport orders per week in three-shift operation.
